Super Bowl LXI: Date, Location, Tickets, and Why This One Is Different

Super Bowl LXI will be played on Sunday, 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Two things about that sentence are unusual. It is the first Super Bowl ever played on Valentine’s Day. And it will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN — the first Super Bowl in ESPN’s history, and the first on ABC since Super Bowl XL in 2006.

Here is everything confirmed so far, and the parts still to be announced.

The site was approved by owners at the December League Meeting in 2023, well ahead of most Super Bowl announcements. The Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee formally received the handoff in February 2026.

Why the Valentine’s Day date matters

Every recent Super Bowl has landed in the first or second week of February. The 14 February date is a consequence of the 2026 calendar and the 18-week regular season, and it puts the game on Valentine’s Day for the first time.

That is not a trivia note. It is a genuine planning problem for a lot of households, and it will shape how the day gets marketed — expect restaurants, bars and delivery services to lean into it hard. If you are the person in your house who cares about the game, have the conversation early.

SoFi Stadium: what to expect

SoFi opened in 2020 at a construction cost north of $5 billion, making it one of the most expensive sports venues ever built. It is home to both the Rams and the Chargers — one of only two stadiums in the league shared by two franchises.

Standard NFL capacity is roughly 70,000, but the building is designed to expand past 100,000 for major events, which is what happens for a Super Bowl. The defining feature is the Infinity Screen, a double-sided halo video board suspended over the field.

This is SoFi’s second Super Bowl in five years. Super Bowl LVI was played there in February 2022, when the Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 on their own field.

Los Angeles has hosted more Super Bowls than you think

LXI will be the ninth Super Bowl in the greater Los Angeles area. The breakdown:

Two at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, in 1967 and 1973. The 1967 game was the first Super Bowl ever played.

Five at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena — 1977, 1980, 1983, 1987 and 1993.

One at SoFi Stadium in 2022, with LXI making two.

Only New Orleans and Miami have hosted more, with 11 each.

The broadcast is a genuine first

Super Bowl LXI airs on ABC and ESPN. This is the first Super Bowl ESPN has ever broadcast, and the first on ABC in more than two decades.

It is a product of the league’s 11-year television agreement, which rotates Super Bowl rights among CBS, Fox, NBC and ABC/ESPN. Each network gets the game roughly once every four years, and 2027 is the first time the rotation has reached ABC/ESPN.

The announced booth is Joe Buck on play-by-play with Troy Aikman on analysis, with Lisa Salters and Laura Rutledge reporting from the sidelines. ESPN2 is expected to carry an alternate broadcast.

Kickoff time has not been announced. Recent Super Bowls have kicked off between 6:20 and 6:40 PM ET, which for a west coast venue means late afternoon locally.

Tickets: the honest version

There is no general public ticket sale for the Super Bowl. There never has been.

The league distributes the large majority of tickets to the 32 clubs, with the two participating teams and the host team receiving the biggest allocations. A small number go into a random-selection lottery that fans have to enter roughly a year in advance. The rest reach the public through resale.

On Location is the NFL’s official hospitality provider and the only official source for ticket and hospitality packages. Its packages bundle seating with food, entertainment and access, and are priced accordingly.

The practical reality: face value is not the price you will pay. Resale prices for recent Super Bowls have opened in the low thousands and moved sharply depending on which teams qualify. A matchup involving a large local or national fanbase drives prices up hard in the two weeks between the conference championships and the game.

If you want to be in the building, decide your ceiling before the conference championship games are played, not after.

Getting to Inglewood

SoFi sits in Inglewood, not central Los Angeles, and the difference matters on game day.

Parking at the stadium is permit-only and sells out well in advance. Rideshare works but surge pricing on a Super Bowl Sunday is severe, and the designated pickup zones involve a long walk. The Metro K Line serves the area, and for Super Bowl LVI the region ran expanded transit service — expect something similar in 2027, announced closer to the date.

Hotel supply is the bigger constraint. Los Angeles has enormous room inventory, but Super Bowl week concentrates demand and prices rise months out. Inglewood, El Segundo and the South Bay put you closest. Downtown and Hollywood are cheaper but the game-day journey is long.

The economic backdrop

Super Bowl LVI generated upwards of $477 million in economic impact across the Los Angeles region, according to the host committee. That figure covers hotels, transport, hospitality and local procurement.

Through the host committee’s Business Connect programme, 225 women-, minority-, LGBTQIA+- and veteran-owned businesses participated in contracting opportunities around LVI. The 2027 host committee has said it intends to build on that.

Take single-event economic impact numbers with some caution — the methodology behind them is contested by economists, and displaced spending is hard to separate from new spending. But the direction of travel is not in dispute.

Where the Super Bowl goes after this

Super Bowl LXIIFebruary 2028Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
Super Bowl LXIIIFebruary 2029Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, NV
Super Bowl LXIVFebruary 2030Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN

Two notes on that table. The exact 2028 date has not been set, because it depends on whether the league expands the 2027 regular season from 17 games to 18. And Super Bowl LXIV will be the first ever played in Tennessee, at a Nissan Stadium that has not opened yet — the Titans move in for the 2027 season.
